Siobhan Miller – Three Albums, Three Nights Over three nights in the intimate setting of The Blue Arrow, award-winning singer-songwriter Siobhan Miller presents each of her three acclaimed solo albums in their entirety for the first time, accompanied by three incredible bands made up of musicians from the original recordings.
Monday 25th – MERCURY – Miller’s most recent release, Mercury, is also her first of entirely original material. Recorded in Glasgow with many of her frequent collaborators the material on this album is written around the theme of memories. The importance of our past and what we take with us throughout our lives. The music is rich in detail, with melodies that combine the influences of indie and alternative music with her grounding in folk music. The Mercury band will feature Louis Abbott and Drums/Vocals, Euan Burton on Bass, John Lowrie on Keys, Innes White on Guitar, Conor Smith on Electric Guitar and Rachel Lightbody on Backing Vocals. “a vibrant, fresh collection of songs that perfectly showcase her beautiful voice” (THE SCOTTISH SUN)
Tuesday 26th – Strata – Strata was released in 2017 and features eleven songs covering a wide range of territory showing the many influences on Miller’s formative musical years. Siobhan mixes songs passed down to her by Scotland’s source & revival singers. The opening track ‘Banks of Newfoundland’ won Best Traditional track at the 2018 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. This album is the culmination of a personal musical journey for Siobhan who was eager to record these songs for many years fulfilling a long held desire to pay tribute to Sheila Stewart, Dick Gaughan, Gordeana McCulloch, Rod Paterson and her father Brian Miller. The material reflects on her musical upbringing whilst forging a unique path forward, with her vocal performances atop the collective talents of some of Scotland’s finest musicians including special guest Kris Drever and well as pianist Tom Gibbs, Drummer Louis Abbott and many others. “This is a dream of an album: gorgeous in itself but it also makes me nostalgic for the times when I first heard these songs” (The Living Tradition)
Wednesday 27th – FLIGHT OF TIME – Siobhan’s first solo recorded was produced by reputed singer-songwriter and Love and Money frontman James Grant. ‘Flight of Time’ was released in 2015 and was nominated for Album of the Year at the BBC Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, highlighting her extensive range through traditional, contemporary and self-penned material. The album includes songs by artists who played an important role in inspiring Miller’s own songwriting including songs co-written with James Grant, Davy Steele’s ‘Long Hello’s and Short Goodbyes’, & The January Man by Dave Goulder. “delicate, nourishing vocals and lyrically rich compositions” (The List).
