Founded by musician and composer Donald Shaw of Capercaillie in Glasgow in 2000, Vertical Records began with a clear mission: to champion Celtic and roots music with the artist’s interests at heart.
What started as a platform for cutting-edge traditional music blossomed into a vibrant, collaborative home for musicians connected to the Celtic spirit - whether through geography, heritage, or musical kinship.
Since then, Vertical Records has released over 50 acclaimed albums by a diverse range of Celtic-inspired artists, from mainstream chart acts to genre-pushing instrumental collectives such as Karen Matheson, Michael McGoldrick, Karan Casey, Roddy Hart, Love & Money’s James Grant, Dreamers’ Circus, Phil Cunningham, and many more.
With more than two decades as a cornerstone of Celtic and roots music, Vertical Records maintains its founding values: artist focus, musical integrity, and cultural connection. The label continues to release exceptional music, nurture emerging talent, and celebrate the evolving tapestry of Celtic-inspired artistry. We’re proud to be a creative home where tradition meets innovation.
